‘Finding possibility of creating a visual art with olfactory content’
Scented Eye
Woodcut on fabric, traditional fumigating technique 2018
Inspired by the power of scent on human memories, I develop this project of combining visual art and traditional Thai olfactory wisdom together to enhance the perceptional experience.
With this initiative artwork, I fumigated the print in traditional way using Thai herbs and components. It is to bring out the unique scent of Thai tradition which also reminds the traditional way of life.
On my way to pay a final tribute and farewell to His Majesty The Late King Bhumibol of Thailand which was held at the Throne Hall, The Grand Palace, I recognised the scent from the night flowers and incenses used in the ceremony. The visual content of an artwork tells a concrete story, the olfactory content implements the abstract, emotional part.
